White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt on Monday said that President Donald Trump had repeatedly asked lawmakers to return from recess to resolve a shutdown of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and that he would host an Easter dinner at the White House if they did.”He’ll host a big Easter Dinner here at the White House if Congress comes back and FIGHTS the Democrats on this issue. Which we should do. The Democrat Party is in the wrong,” Leavitt said.
The Senate, last week, passed a plan to end the shutdown by funding DHS, except for ICE and CBP, prompting an enraged House to pass a 60-day continuing resolution to fund the whole department.
The shutdown has continued for 44 days, marking a record. Trump himself has repeatedly urged the Senate to end the filibuster to permit the passage of a DHS bill, as well as the SAVE America Act, a voter ID bill.
