Virginia Dems set April 21 date for redistricting vote

Virginia Democrats on Thursday scheduled a statewide vote on a special redistricting measure for April 21, The Hill reported.The proposed redraw would heavily favor Democrats and shift the state from a narrow 6-5 district edge in their favor to as much as a 10-1 edge. The measure presents itself as a temporary redraw to “restore fairness” in the midterms that would expire in term for the 2030 redistricting process.
The move comes as several Republican-led states have moved to redistrict in a bid to give the GOP an edge for 2026. Some blue states, including California and Maryland, have followed suit, leading to legal challenges. The Supreme Court is also expected to rule on a portion of the Voting Rights Act in what could trigger a further set of redraws across the South.
The Virginia redraw follow Indiana Republicans declining to redraw their maps, despite the urging of President Donald Trump.
