THE HAGUE, Netherlands (CN) — Washington turned up the pressure on the International Criminal Court on Thursday, sanctioning two judges in a move that drew swift pushback and warnings that the step could weaken global efforts to hold perpetrators of the world’s worst crimes to account.
In a press statement, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the sanctions target ICC Appeals Chamber judges Gocha Lordkipanidze of Georgia and Erdenebalsuren Damdin of Mongolia under an executive order aimed at the court.
