The United States women’s hockey team defeated Canada Thursday at the 2026 Olympics, giving the U.S. its eighth gold medal of these Olympics and Canada its fifth silver medal.The United States defeated Canada in a 2-1 final in Milan, Italy. Canada’s Kristin O’Neill put Canada on the board in the second period by scoring the first goal of the game, while American Hilary Knight scored the first goal for the United States at the end of the third period.
The match marked the seventh time the two women’s teams faced off against each other in the Gold medal event at the Olympics since women’s hockey became an Olympic sport in 1998. Thursday’s victory marked the United States’ third time beating Canada.
Switzerland won the bronze Wednesday, defeating Sweden 2-1 in overtime.
The United States’ men’s hockey will face off against Slovakia in the semifinals Friday. The winner of that game will take on either Canada or Finland on Sunday. The bronze medal match will take place Saturday.
