U.K. Prime Minister Kier Starner said he is “fed up” with the way President Donald Trump and Russian Premier Vladimir Putin are affecting world energy prices, and he said the U.K.’s economy should take a “new path.” Starmer said the energy crisis caused by the Israeli- and U.S.-led war in Iran should become turning point after 20 years of crises.
“Britain has been buffeted by crises for nearly two decades,” Starmer wrote in a special editorial published in The Guardian. “We should not be at the mercy of events abroad.
“The war in Iran must now become a line in the sand, because how we emerge from this crisis will define all of us for a generation,” Starmer wrote.
Separately, Starmer said he was frustrated by seeing energy bills in the U.S. reach in such volatile ways due to decisions made by Trump and Putin.
“I’m fed up with the fact that families across the country see their bills go up and down on energy, businesses’ bills go up and down on energy, because of the actions of Putin or Trump across the world,” Starmer said in an interview with ITV News’ Talking Politics podcast.
