Trump urges House to back funding deal to avoid shutdown

President Donald Trump on Monday urged the House to speedily approve the funding agreement that the Senate struck last week in order to avert a partial government shutdown.The Senate, last week, passed a package of five of the remaining six appropriations bills, as well as a short-term extension of funding for the remaining bill while Congress debates changes to the Department of Homeland Security package.
“I am working hard with Speaker Johnson to get the current funding deal, which passed in the Senate last week, through the House and to my desk, where I will sign it into Law, IMMEDIATELY!” he posted on Truth Social. “We need to get the Government open, and I hope all Republicans and Democrats will join me in supporting this Bill, and send it to my desk WITHOUT DELAY. There can be NO CHANGES at this time.”
“We will work together in good faith to address the issues that have been raised, but we cannot have another long, pointless, and destructive Shutdown that will hurt our Country so badly — One that will not benefit Republicans or Democrats,” he added. “I hope everyone will vote, YES!”
Democrats have sought concessions from the GOP on the DHS bill in the wake of the death of Alex Pretti, an anti-Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) demonstrator whom Border Patrol agents shot in Minneapolis during a physical altercation.
The continuing resolution on DHS funding is set to last two weeks, though an agreement to pass the full-year bill could come at any time.
