    President Donald Trump signed an executive order Wednesday directing a sweeping overhaul of U.S. customs enforcement, targeting importers who dodge duties and defraud the system that funds American trade protections. The order, signed at the White House on June 3, tasks the Department of Homeland Security and U.S. Customs and Border Protection with tightening the rules that govern who gets to bring goods into the country, and on what terms.

    The core aim is straightforward: strengthen compliance with customs laws, improve duty collection, and crack down on fraud. For years, importers operating with thin domestic footprints and minimal financial exposure have exploited gaps in the system, underpaying or evading duties owed to the U.S. Treasury. This order is designed to close those gaps.
