President Donald Trump on Thursday released a video showing late anti-Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) demonstrator Alex Pretti breaking the taillight of a federal vehicle while Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., described him as a caring and peaceful individual.”Caring for people was at the core of who he is. He was incapable of causing harm. Alex carried patience, compassion, and calm as a steady light within him. Even at the very end, that light was there. I recognized his familiar stillness and signature calm composure,” Warren says in the video.
As Warren speaks, an enraged Pretti spits on the vehicle, before kicking the taillight of the vehicle, after which a federal agent gets out of the care and apprehends him.
Pretti died over the weekend during an altercation with Border Patrol agents in Minneapolis, Minn. His death became a rallying cry for Democratic lawmakers to demand the exit of federal agents from the city. His shooting followed the death of fellow demonstrator Renee Good, whom an agent shot while in her vehicle earlier this month.
The footage Trump used was not of Pretti’s fatal altercation with Border Patrol, but of an earlier incident.
