President Donald Trump on Thursday quipped that he might run for president of Venezuela after he leaves the White House, asserting that his ouster of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro had made him politically popular enough in that country to win the job.”Venezuela has done better now with us. Call it a partner. Call it whatever you want,” he said during the Thursday meeting of the Cabinet. “We’ve made a lot of money, and they’ve made a lot of money.”
“Our relationship with Venezuela has been amazing. The people, actually, I’m the highest polling person. In other words, after the presidency, I think I may go to Venezuela… I may run against Delcy. It’s an option,” its an option. “No, I they like me in Venezuela, but it’s an option for me. It’s a wonderful option.”
After Trump’s ouster of Maduro earlier this year, Vice President Delcy Rodriguez took over leadership of the country. She has since moved to reconcile with Washington and worked with the administration on revitalizing Venezuelan oil production.
The quip marks the latest in a long line of jokes about Trump assuming other offices. He previously floated becoming Pope before the election of the current officeholder and posted memes of him as speaker of the House following the ouster of Kevin McCarthy.
