President Donald Trump on Tuesday stated that Iran had given the U.S. a “present” related to the flow of oil through the Strait of Hormuz, but did not provide details.”They gave us a present and the present arrived today. It was a very big present worth a tremendous amount of money,” he told reporters. “It wasn’t nuclear-related, it was oil and gas-related.”
Trump did not provide any context as to the “present’s” receipt, neither did he indicate whether the present would play a role in settling hostilities between the countries.
The ongoing war began in late February, when U.S.-Israeli airstrikes targeted Iranian leadership. Iran has since retaliated against Israel, the U.S., and many of its neighbors, while Israel has invaded Lebanon due to Hezbollah’s entry into the conflict.
