President Donald J. Trump furiously announced on Saturday, February 21, that he had decided to rescind his endorsement of U.S. Rep. Will Hurd (R-CO), announcing that he will instead be backing his primary challenger, Hope Scheppelman, in the furious intra-party fight for Colorado’s 3rd Congressional District. The major shift appears to have occurred after Hurd made it clear in an anti-tariff vote that he is not a MAGA Republican.
As background, before the Supreme Court ruled against President Trump’s tariffs, a collection of House Republicans and Democrats voted to pass a resolution to repeal the tariffs that the president placed on Canada, with the resolution arguing that the national emergency that the president declared to justify the punitive action needs to be repealed.
