Trump claims people should believe Iran when it says ‘death to America’

President Donald Trump defended the United States’ role in attacking Iran recently as the conflict stretches into its 17th day, stating Monday that the Middle Eastern country should be believed when it says “death to America.” Israel and the U.S. began a weeks-long conflict against Iran late last month, which resulted in the death of former Iranian Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Iran has retaliated by hitting U.S. bases in the Middle East and attacking Israel.
Trump defended the attacks as an effort to keep Iran from developing nuclear weapons, maintaining that Iran would attack the U.S. if it ever achieved the feat.
“When they say ‘Death to America,’ you should believe them because…if they had a nuclear weapon, they would’ve used it,” Trump said during an event at the White House. “Iran is a shell of itself, it’s no longer a bully…it’s the bully that got beat up. We beat the crap out of them—and they deserve that.”
Trump stated that he did not want any wars but that he was obligated to attack Iran because it would not agree to stop pursuing a nuclear weapon and that “at least a very substantial part of the world would be blown up,” if Iran ever did get one.
“It’ll be wrapped up soon,” he continued. “We’re going to have a much safer world. I had an obligation to do this… you want to see a stock market go down? Start letting them hit you with nukes.”
