President Donald Trump on Monday called Russian President Vladimir Putin to discuss the Iran and Ukraine wars, Russian state media outlet TASS reported. The call came the same day that Trump described the American operation in Iran as “very complete.” Russian Presidential Aide Yury Ushakov told reporters that the Iran and Ukraine conflicts were the main subjects of the call.
“Naturally, the emphasis was placed on the situation around the conflict with Iran and on the ongoing trilateral talks on Ukrainian settlement, in which US representatives are taking part,” he said.
“President Trump has again expressed his interest in having the conflict in Ukraine resolved by reaching a ceasefire and reaching long-term settlement as quickly as possible,” he added. “We, on our part, gave a positive assessment to mediation efforts undertaken by Donald Trump personally, and by his team.”
While campaigning for president in 2024, Trump promised to end the Ukraine War within 24 hours, though that deadline has long since passed.
Russia reportedly began providing Iranian forces with intelligence and targeting information at the start of the U.S. conflict, matching American activities in Ukraine. It is unclear if Trump and Putin discussed those operations.
