Trump announces Big Tech signed pledge to cover data center electricity costs

President Donald Trump announced Wednesday afternoon that he has signed a pledge with several major technology companies, which guarantees the companies will cover the cost of the electricity they use to develop artificial intelligence. The White House said Google, Microsoft, Meta, Oracle, xAI, OpenAI, and Amazon have agreed to sign onto the “Ratepayer Protection Pledge,” which agrees to build, bring or buy new power to support their data centers and prevent higher electricity costs for consumers. 
The companies also committed to creating thousands of jobs by hiring and training talent from within the communities where they build and operate the data centers.
“We’re here this afternoon for a historic signing that will help keep down utility bills very, very substantially and electricity prices for millions of Americans,” Trump said. “They’re not going to be going up. They’re going to be actually going down … In short, America’s largest and richest tech companies will be funding a colossal expansion of U.S. energy.”
The pledge expands on Trump’s commitment to expanding the domestic energy supply and lowering prices for Americans. 
“President Trump’s ratepayer protection pledge will deliver more affordable, reliable, and secure energy for the American people and help stop the rising electricity prices that started during the previous administration,” Energy Secretary Chris Wright said. “This plan will strengthen American energy dominance, while also ensuring the United States wins the AI race.”
