The United States has reached a trade deal with the Republic of China (Taiwan) that will see the island nation remove “99 percent of trade barriers.”The Office of the United States Trade Representative confirmed the agreement in a fact sheet this week. While Taiwan will eliminate nearly all of its tariffs on American imports, the U.S. will lower its tariffs on Taiwanese goods to 15%.
The Taiwan deal marks the latest in a string of trade agreements under the Trump administration in the wake of the 2025 Liberation Day tariffs that Trump launched in a bid to rebalance American commerce with other countries.
President Donald Trump has sought to reindustrialize the United States through trade barriers and early data suggests the effort is bearing fruit. U.S. steel production outpaced Japan for the first time since 1999 earlier this year.
