A New York judge has declared a mistrial in the case of a former aide to two state Democratic governors after jurors said they were deadlocked and couldn’t reach a verdict on charges she sold her influence to China. The Justice Department case in a federal court in Brooklyn was against Linda Sun and her husband, Chris Hu, according to NBC News.
They also faced charges of profiting from a medical equipment scheme during the pandemic. The jury’s foreperson said the panel was deadlocked on all 19 counts and was unable to reach a unanimous verdict.
Sun was accused of using her state government post to subtly advance communist Chinese government’s agenda in exchange for benefits worth millions, NBC also reports.
