As I wrote the other day, liberals have a bizarre and worrisome tendency to rally behind the worst people and make them into heroes. They are not arguing that we should forgive the repentant. I would argue that, in many cases, that is a bad idea because it denies justice to the victims, but I understand the case for doing so. Repentance should inspire forgiveness, which is why we provide priests to condemned murderers and encourage them to ask God for mercy.
