The State Department told Fox News on Monday that the suspect in a mass stabbing event outside of Washington, D.C., over the weekend was in fact a foreign service officer, but did not provide additional details. Virginia State Police identified the suspect as 32-year-old Jared Llamado of McLean, Virginia, who allegedly stabbed four women, resulting in the death of one of the women, identified as 39-year-old Michelle Adams. A dog was also killed in the stabbing.
The incident occurred Sunday on an interstate on the beltway outside the nation’s capital and Llamado was killed by a state trooper on the scene.
“We are aware of the tragic incident that involved a Foreign Service Officer and occurred on Sunday, March 1, in Fairfax County, Virginia,” a State Department spokesperson told Fox. “We extend our deepest condolences to all those affected by this tragedy.”
Officials said the stabbings are not believed to be related to terrorism, despite it occurring the same weekend that the U.S. attacked Iran. The FBI is investigating a shooting in Austin, Texas, as terrorism-related.
