Gov. Abigail Spanberger, D-Va., will deliver the Democratic response to the State of the Union address next week.Trump is set to speak to a joint session of Congress on Tuesday evening.
“Gov. Spanberger has always put service over politics — defending our national security and delivering real results for working families,” Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer said, according to CBS News.
“She knows Americans want lower costs, safer communities, and a stronger democracy — not chaos and corruption,” he added. “Gov. Spanberger will lay out a clear path forward: lower everyday costs, protect healthcare, and defend the freedoms that define who we are as a nation.”
It is customary for the opposing party to publish a response to the event. During the Biden administration, Sen. Katie Britt, R-Ala., delivered the Republican response to President Joe Biden’s address.
