Senate Republicans halted an effort by Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., on Saturday to secure pay exclusively for Transportation Security Administration (TSA) workers as the Department of Homeland Security shutdown continues.Although Democrats do not control the Senate floor, Schumer employed a little-used procedural maneuver to trigger a vote that would allow consideration of the bill.
Democrats are pushing the GOP to accept a list of reforms to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) as a condition to pass a bill to fund the agency.
In the meantime, DHS remains unfunded.
