    Russia strikes Ukraine amid high-stakes peace talks involving U.S. envoys

    Russian forces launched overnight attacks on Ukrainian cities just as a second day of peace talks began in Abu Dhabi, underscoring how difficult it has been to halt nearly four years of war. The strikes, involving drones and missiles, killed at least one civilian and injured dozens more, including in Kyiv and Kharkiv. The violence came during a rare multilateral negotiation between Ukrainian, Russian and U.S. representatives. The meetings mark the first time officials from the Trump administration are directly participating in efforts to find a political resolution to the conflict. 
    U.S. envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner traveled to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin shortly before the Abu Dhabi discussions began. 
    In Moscow, Kremlin advisers insisted that any long-term settlement must address disputes over territory — a demand that Kyiv has rejected as unacceptable.
