Secretary of State Marco Rubio will deliver the United States’ main address at the Munich Security Conference in Germany Saturday, as he leads the U.S. delegation a year after Vice President JD Vance spoke at the event.Rubio, who is already in Germany to meet with European leaders privately, declined to go into specifics on the speech but said it was important that countries reevaluate their role in the world moving forward.
“The Old World is gone,” Rubio told reporters as he departed for Europe Thursday. “Frankly, the world I grew up in, and we live in a new era in geopolitics, and it’s going to require all of us to re-examine what that looks like and what our role is going to be.”
The European trip marks Rubio’s third time at the conference, and second time as secretary of state, according to Fox News. He attended one year as a senator.
Other American politicians in Germany this weekend include former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, California Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom and New York Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio Cortez.
Vance is also overseas this week in Armenia and Azerbaijan, where he is signing a peaceful nuclear cooperation agreement with Armenia and a strategic partnership with Azerbaijan.
