Rep. Jimmy Gomez, the California Democrat who founded the Congressional Dads Caucus and built his brand around hands-on fatherhood, told CNN on Tuesday that he made “personal mistakes outside my marriage”, a confession that came only after the New York Post reported he was seen kissing a congressional aide outside a Washington, D.C., party and a House Ethics Committee investigation followed.
The admission is a reversal. When the Post first broke the story in April, Gomez strongly denied the reporting. Now, weeks later and under the weight of an ethics probe that reportedly uncovered new details, the Los Angeles Democrat has changed course, though he still gave no indication he plans to resign.
