The Department of War will not release the full footage of a Sept. 2 strike on a suspected Venezuelan drug boat that attracted controversy over a follow-up attack on the survivors.”[W]e’re not going to release a top secret full unedited video of that to the general public,” Secretary of War Pete Hegseth told reporters, according to The Hill.
The incident saw the Department of War target the boat four times. The first strike killed nine of the 11 people aboard while the second strike killed the remaining two. The third and fourth strikes sunk the boat.
Under Hegseth, the DOW has begun targeting suspected drug vessels operating out of Venezuela, with the aim to deterring trafficking operations into the United States.
The practice has attracted scrutiny from libertarians in Congress over due process concerns.
