Norwegian authorities announced Wednesday the arrest of three brothers who are believed to be responsible for the bombing at a United States embassy in Oslo over the weekend. The incident took place Sunday and caused minor damage to the embassy, though no injuries or deaths were reported.
Authorities said the brothers were Norwegian citizens of Iraqi descent and in their 20s, though their identities have not been released.
“They are suspected of a terror bombing,” Police Attorney Christian Hatlo told reporters. “We believe they detonated a powerful bomb at the U.S. embassy with the intention of taking lives or causing significant damage.”
Officials believe one of the men planted the improvised explosive device and the other two plotted with him, per Fox News.
No motive for the bombing has been disclosed so far, but it comes after the United States and Israel started a conflict in the Middle East late last month by attacking Iran. Iran has since retaliated by striking U.S. military bases in the region.
Oslo police increased security around the embassy after the bombing and other American embassies have been placed on high alert.
