The Republican primary race for the U.S. Senate in Texas is proving that voters in the state are ready to boot out the GOP establishment and replace it with individuals who are supportive of President Donald Trump’s America First agenda. New polling data has revealed that Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is ahead of incumbent Sen. John Cornyn and Rep. Wesley Hunt in the race for the party’s nomination.
A survey conducted in late January 2026 by the Hobby School of Public Affairs at the University of Houston discovered that 38% of likely voters in the GOP primary are intending to cast their ballots for Paxton in March. Cornyn is trailing Paxton by seven points (31%), with Hunt only pulling in 17%. Out of the total voters surveyed, only two percent picked a different candidate, with 12% undecided.
