Rep. Nancy Mace, R-S.C., on Friday stated that Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick should answer questions from the House Oversight Committee about his connections with Jeffrey Epstein, as the panel pursues a probe into his associates.”Howard Lutnick should take questions from the Oversight committee,” Mace said, in response to an alleged photo of Lutnick with Epstein. Chairman James Comer has previously suggested he may seek Lutnick’s testimony on the matter.
The commerce secretary previously denied having maintained any connection with Epstein after 2005, but later admitted that he had lunch with Epstein on his private island in 2012, after Epstein pleaded guilty to sex trafficking of a minor.
He has denied any wrongdoing and the administration has asserted its confidence in Lutnick.
Mace’s call for him to testify comes the same day that the panel is deposing former President Bill Clinton, whose ties to Epstein are well documented. Former first lady Hillary Clinton spoke to the panel on Thursday.
