East Feliciana Parish Sheriff’s Office officials have arrested three suspects in connection to the mass shooting in Louisiana over the weekend, which injured five people, including a six-year-old girl. The shooting occurred during a Mardi Gras parade on Saturday near the East Feliciana Parish Courthouse, and all five victims were sent to local hospitals where two of them underwent surgery, including the child. One victim, identified as Melvina Hawkins, is expected to be paralyzed. All five are expected to survive, according to ABC News.
The sheriff’s office said all three suspects were apprehended at the scene, including one minor who has not been identified. The other two have been identified as 19-year-old Noah Basquine and 26-year-old Jascent Scott.
Basquine and the juvenile suspect were charged with crimes directly related to the shooting, including attempted second-degree murder, while Scott was charged with illegally possessing a firearm and resisting arrest, the sheriff’s office said, according to WAFB. Investigators do not believe Scott was involved in the shootings.
Investigators said they are also examining whether the shooting may be connected to possible gang activity, though no clear motive has been identified so far.
