Rep. Julia Letlow, R-La., on Tuesday officially launched a primary challenge to Sen. Bill Cassidy, R-La., after President Donald Trump endorsed her.Cassidy was one of a handful of Republicans who voted to impeach Trump over Jan. 6 in 2021. Trump’s endorsement of Letlow came before she officially decided to run.
“It’s an honor to share with you today that I’m officially announcing my candidacy for the United States Senate,” she said Tuesday, according to Politico.
Letlow represents the state’s Fifth Congressional District and has served in the House since 2021. Cassidy is expected to be a tough opponent for her, however, as he has already raised roughly $2 million for his campaign.
