King Charles III plans to visit the United States in April and will speak to Congress in a joint session, Politico reported, citing “two people familiar with the matter.”The visit will mark the first time a British sovereign has addressed Congress since Queen Elizabeth II’s address in 1991. King Charles’s arrival comes amid ongoing tensions between the White House and 10 Downing Street over the Iran war.
Prime Minister Kier Starmer has vocally criticized the American-Israeli operation and refused numerous calls to commit British forces to the effort. He did, however, sign on to a joint statement expressing support for reopening the Strait of Hormuz.
The general lack of support from European nations for the Iran war has led Trump to repeatedly criticize NATO, going so far as to call the alliance a “paper tiger” without the United States.
