Vice President JD Vance will visit Hungary this month and meet with Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, ahead of parliamentary elections in that country.”Vice President JD Vance and Second Lady Usha Vance will visit Budapest, Hungary from April 7 to April 8. While in Budapest, the Vice President will hold bilateral meetings with Prime Minister Viktor Orbán,” the White House said in a statement. “The Vice President will also deliver remarks on the rich partnership between the United States and Hungary.”
The Hungarian elections are set for April 12 and polling has shown a close race that could see Orbán’s party lose power. The Hungarian leader has positioned himself as a close ally of the Trump administration and also maintains close ties with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Trump has previously endorsed Orbán’s reelection effort and Vance’s visit could signal an attempt to bolster his reelection chances.
