The U.S.-Israel war against Iran expanded after Israel launched strikes against Hezbollah targets in Lebanon, and Hezbollah, an Iranian proxy group, retaliated. The developments came after the death of Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, who was reportedly killed amid U.S. and Israeli strikes on Tehran Saturday. In response, Iran attacked Israel, U.S. military installations in the area, and facilities run by U.S. allies in the Gulf region, including the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia. Israel’s strikes against Hezbollah targets were in response to Iran’s counter-attacks, and, according to media reports, were coordinated with the U.S.
There was no immediate official assessment of the damage from the Israeli strikes.
Earlier, it was reported that three U.S. service members were killed by Iranian counter-attacks and at least five others were wounded. President Donald Trump late Sunday predicted the combat operation against Iran would last just “four weeks, maybe less.”
