Lebanon, Israel’s neighbor to the north, is increasingly involved in the ongoing Israel- and U.S.-led conflict with Iran, with Lebanon-based and Iran-allied insurgent group Hezbollah launching more than 200 rockets on Israeli targets in the country’s northern regionsIsrael responded in kind, and Israel’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that Hezbollah had “joined the war” on the side of Iran.
U.S. and European media have called Lebanon “a new front” in the regional conflict.
Hezbollah, like Hamas in Gaza and the Houthis in Qatar, is an Iran-funded proxy group. It is not funded by the Lebanese government, but it operates from within the country.
Reports say Hezbollah leadership is preparing for an Israeli ground attack against their positions.
