Iran’s supreme leader has been killed after U.S. and Israel launched a military operation in the country, according to a multiple reports on Saturday and confirmed later by Iranian state media.Abbas Araghchi, Iran’s foreign minister, had said earlier in an NBC News interview on Saturday that Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and President Masoud Pezeshkian were alive “as far as I know.”
The compound where Khamenei lives was reportedly hit during the operation.
It’s not clear if the president has been killed as well. Some reports said up to 10 top Iranian were killed in addition to Khamenei. Trump said Khamenei’s death marks Iran’s best chance for freedom. “He was unable to avoid our Intelligence and Highly Sophisticated Tracking Systems and, working closely with Israel, there was not a thing he, or the other leaders that have been killed along with him, could do. This is the single greatest chance for the Iranian people to take back their Country,” Trump wrote on social media.
