The Republican-controlled Indiana state Senate voted Thursday to reject the redrawn redistricting map that could have potentially meant an increase of two GOP U.S. House members in the 2026 midterm elections. The defeat of the map represents a setback to President Donald Trump, who had strongly advocated for its passage by the state Senate. Also, there have been multiple visits from Vice President JD Vance and calls from Speaker of the House Mike Johnson (La.), attempting to persuade enough members of the Senate to pass the redrawn map.
Though the GOP-controlled state House had approved the map last week, according to NBC News, it failed in the state Senate by a vote of 31-19.
