Gov. J.B. Pritzker says President Donald Trump owes the families of Illinois and the United States about $2,000 per household for the illegal tariffs he imposed.Pritzker’s comments came after the U.S. Supreme Court ruled on Friday that the power to levy taxes and duties on Americans rests solely with Congress.
The Liberty Justice Center said the ruling confirms that the president cannot invoke emergency powers to unilaterally set tariff rates.
PRITZKER PUSHES CELL PHONE BAN
Gov. J.B. Pritzker has renewed his call for a cell phone ban in Illinois classrooms.
The governor spoke in Oak Park on Friday to advocate for legislation requiring all school districts and charter schools in Illinois to adopt a policy limiting the use of wireless communication devices on school grounds during the school day.
Senate Bill 2427 was assigned to the Illinois House Education Policy Committee last Tuesday.
SUSPECT WANTED IN ALLEGED CATTLE FRAUD SCHEME
Federal authorities are searching for a fugitive who is wanted in connection with a nationwide cattle fraud scheme.
The FBI says Joshua Robert Link of Strafford, Missouri has ties to multiple states, including Illinois. Link and four others were indicted earlier this month for their roles in the alleged $220 million scheme involving purported cattle purchase contracts.
