BUDAPEST, Hungary (AFP) — With elections looming in Hungary, nationalist Prime Minister Viktor Orban’s tight grip on power is looking looser as public outrage mounts over allegations of child abuse at state-run institutions.
The premier, who is close with U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, has been hailing a “new era” of world politics marked by the demise of liberals and rise of his far-right allies across Europe and beyond.
