The House Oversight Committee on Wednesday voted to advance resolutions to hold former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in contempt of Congress after the pair defied a subpoena to testify before the panel. The chamber voted separately on resolutions for Bill and Hillary Clinton. The Bill Clinton vote was 34-8 while the Hillary Clinton vote was 28-15. The votes send the resolutions to the entire chamber. Should the House approve the resolutions, the legislature would refer the pair to the Department of Justice to face criminal charges.
During the Biden administration, the House made similar moves against Trump loyalists Peter Navarro and Steven Bannon, both of whom refused to comply with a subpoena from the House Jan. 6 Committee. The pair each received a prison sentence.
The Oversight Panel had summoned the Clintons to testify about their connections to the late Jeffrey Epstein amid deep frustrations with the DOJ’s handling of the case. Neither appeared before the panel.
