HHS moves to block hospitals from performing gender surgeries on minors

The Department of Health and Human Services on Thursday announced a series of proposed regulations to block hospitals from performing myriad gender-related treatments on children.The regulations would block surgeries, puberty blockers, and hormone treatments, which the department said “cause irreversible damage, including infertility, impaired sexual function, diminished bone density, altered brain development, and other irreversible physiological effects.”
“Under my leadership, and answering President Trump’s call to action, the federal government will do everything in its power to stop unsafe, irreversible practices that put our children at risk,” HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. said.
Earlier in his term, President Donald Trump signed an executive order directing HHS to move to end the practice, which has come under considerable scrutiny in recent years and has become the subject of statewide bans across the nation.
