Graham urges Trump to ‘wind down’ Iran war

Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., on Monday urged President Donald Trump to “wind down” the Iran war and to increase efforts to preserve a peace agreement.”Wind down the war and wind up efforts for an historic peace deal,” he posted on X. “The necessity for military action is weeks not months and Operation Epic Fury is well ahead of pace.”
Graham’s calls for ending the military phase of the conflict come as public opinion sours on the conflict and Graham faces a contentious primary election. He has long ranked among the most hawkish of the Senate Republicans on Iran.
“The hope for me has always been that by neutralizing Iran as the largest state sponsor of terrorism, it will open the gateway to peace allowing Saudi Arabia and Israel to normalize their relationship, effectively ending the Arab-Israeli conflict,” he added. ”
If this historic normalization deal between Saudi Arabia and Israel occurs, it will be due to President Trump’s bold, decisive leadership in dealing with the Iranian threat so they can no longer be a spoiler for peace like they were on October 7, 2023.”
Polling data throughout the conflict has shown much of the public opposes the war outright, while sizable majorities oppose putting boots on the ground. Earlier this month, a Quincy Institute poll found that 79% of self-described Trump supporters would prefer Trump declare victory and end the conflict swiftly.
