GOP House Speaker Johnson Mike supports impeaching Judge Boasberg

House Speaker Mike Johnson is signaling an openness to impeaching federal judges who have ruled against the Trump administration.When asked at a press conference Wednesday about calls to impeach Judge James Boasberg, of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, and Judge Deborah Boardman, of the U.S. District Court in Maryland, Johnson said he supported the effort.
“I’m for it,” the Louisiana Republican said. “Impeachment, as we have discussed all together many, many times, is an extreme measure. But extreme times call for extreme measures.”
Johnson argued that some judges have exceeded their proper constitutional role, suggesting that impeachment could serve as a warning to the federal judiciary.
“I think some of these judges have gotten so far outside the bounds of where they’re supposed to operate, it would not be, in my view, a bad thing for Congress to lay down law, so to speak, and, you know, to make an example of some of these egregious abuses,” he continued.
Johnson’s comments come as House conservatives revive earlier efforts to impeach judges accused of obstructing President Donald Trump’s agenda through adverse rulings. While impeachment of federal judges is constitutionally permitted, it has historically been rare and reserved for allegations of criminal conduct or ethical violations, not disagreement with judicial decisions.
On Thursday, Rep. Andy Ogles, R-Tenn., said momentum for such action is growing among House Republicans after Johnson expressed support. 
“I just spoke to him on the House floor, and he’s still in support,” Ogles told Fox News Digital. “So we’re going to push to move forward on at least one.”
