A man in Georgia opened fire on a pair of local law enforcement officers who were in the process of questioning him at his hotel after he invited them into his room. One of the officers was killed during the incident and the other sustained serious injuries, officials revealed. The suspect, Kevin Andrews, 35, of Decatur, also received gunshot wounds from one of the officers, according to Gwinnett County Police Chief J.D. McClure.
Andrews was taken to a local hospital where he received medical treatment and is expected to make a full recovery. Once he is released from the hospital, he will immediately be transported to the county jail. The shooting occurred on February 1, 2026, near Stone Mountain, which is located 25 miles northeast of Atlanta. The officers were responding to a Holiday Inn Express after an individual in South Carolina reported that someone used their credit card at the hotel, according to a statement released by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
