Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard claimed Tuesday that the disruption of a Minnesota church service by protesters over the weekend was an example of one of the reasons she left the Democratic Party in 2022. The Justice Department has opened an investigation into the protest in St. Paul, in which demonstrators, including former CNN host Don Lemon, disrupted a church service because they believed the pastor has ties to Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
Gabbard claimed the disruption is emblematic of the party’s hostility towards God and religion, which is one of the main reasons she became a political independent nearly four years ago. She later joined the Republican Party in 2024.
“One of the main reasons I left the Democrat Party was because of their hostility towards God and those who have faith in or are trying to cultivate their love for God,” she wrote on X. “Those so-called ‘protestors’ who tried to intimidate and terrorize innocent women, children, and men in the Minneapolis church is just another example of their hostility towards God and His worshippers.”
Gabbard said the demonstrators should be “condemned by everyone,” claiming they tried to “intimidate and terrorize innocent women, children, and men.”
The Trump administration official also said in an earlier post that another reason she left the party was because of its leaders’ “attempts to undermine religious freedom.”
“The anti‑ICE mob staging a so‑called ‘protest’ inside this Minneapolis church during a service is the latest example of their disrespect for religious freedom and rejection of our right to worship as we choose,” she added.
