U.S. law enforcement announced Saturday that Alejandro Rosales Castillo, one of the FBI’s notorious “Ten Most Wanted” fugitives, has been arrested in Mexico and is being prepared for extradition to face murder charges in North Carolina.Federal authorities say Castillo, 27, was taken into custody in Mexico on Friday after sustained cooperation between U.S. and Mexican officials, several reports said.
The FBI has confirmed that efforts are now underway to bring him back to the United States to face charges related to the 2016 killing of Truc Quan “Sandy” Ly Le, a 23-year-old woman he once worked with at a Charlotte restaurant.
Castillo had been one of the bureau’s most sought-after fugitives since 2017, when he was placed on the Top Ten Most Wanted Fugitives list for allegedly murdering Le and fleeing the country. A reward of up to $250,000 was offered for information leading to his capture.
