(CN) — The Fourth Circuit largely upheld Maryland’s gun control laws Tuesday in a split decision that was likely to fuel further controversy over the right to carry firearms in public.
The appellate court struck down a state law prohibiting possession of guns on private property open to the public, affirming an earlier decision by the Maryland District Court, but upheld the constitutionality of firearm bans in more than a dozen other locations, including public parks and forests, trains, hospitals, bars, museums and casinos.
