Florida GOP Rep. Neal Dunn said Tuesday that he plans to retire from Congress, rather than seek reelection.“After much prayerful consideration and discussion with my family, I have decided not to seek re-election to the United States House of Representatives. This will conclude my service after five meaningful terms representing the people of Florida’s Second Congressional District,” Dunn posted on X.
“The time has come to pass the torch to new conservative leaders, return home to Panama City, and spend more precious time with my family and our beloved grandchildren. I am deeply grateful for your trust, support, and prayers over these years,” he added.
Dunn’s announcement follows former Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., vacating her seat last week.
Dunn, 72, was first elected in 2016 and won reelection with comfortable margins in the Panhandle-based 2nd Congressional District four times since, The Hill news outlet reported. He earned more than 61% of the vote in the 2024 election cycle.
The Florida congressman joins more than two dozen House Republicans who will not seek reelection.
