WASHINGTON (CN) — An environmental advocacy group sued the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Thursday over its decision not to place an at-risk southwestern freshwater turtle on the endangered species list, warning the decision could risk the species’ extinction.
The Center for Biological Diversity filed the suit in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, challenging the service’s March 2022 decision that the Rio Grande cooter does not warrant listing under the Endangered Species Act.
