A federal judge’s refusal to immediately stop immigration enforcement in Minnesota has ignited a firestorm of debate over federal authority and state rights in a deeply divided political landscape.
On Wednesday, Federal Judge Katherine Menendez declined to grant an emergency request from the state of Minnesota and the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul to halt operations by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) under the Trump administration. The decision came amid a lawsuit accusing the federal government of overreach in the state.
