Three people were killed in an explosion in Russia’s capital city on Wednesday, near the location of another explosion that killed a Russian general earlier this week.Lt. Gen. Fanil Sarvarov, who was the head of the Operational Training Directorate of the Russian Armed Forces’ General Staff, was killed Monday after a bomb detonated under his car in southern Moscow. It marked the third death of a senior Russian military official in a year, according to CBS News.
Investigative Committee spokesperson Svetlana Petrenko said two Moscow traffic police officers were among the three people killed in the latest explosion, which occurred after the pair approached a “suspicious individual.”
The third person who died has not yet been identified, but Petrenko said it was another person standing nearby. The officers have been identified as Ilya Klimanov, 24, and Maxim Gorbunov, 25, according to BBC News.
Russia said it believed Ukraine orchestrated Sarvarov’s death on Monday, but Ukraine has not commented on the accusation, and it was not clear if the two explosions were connected.
