(CN) — Dominik Calhoun was the kind of high school athlete who filled stadiums. Between 2021 and 2024, the cornerback starred on the football field and dominated track at two California high schools.
But while media companies streamed his games, sold advertising around his performances and profited from footage of him in his school uniform, Calhoun couldn’t earn money from his own name, image or likeness if it showed him wearing that same uniform or any connection to his school.
